Lucky and not-so-lucky.

If your dice aren’t performing the way they should (ie: you’re rolling all 1s), I found out that you are to stick said dice in the freezer as punishment.  Supposedly it will freeze some sense into them.  Heh.

I love these guys so much.

Lame post, but I’m sleepy and need to get to bed.  Yes.  So very sleepy.  But zombies were crushed in the process so it’s all good… even if a lot of 1s were rolled.

Indian spice is always nice.

February 25th, 2008 Nichole

I tried a new Indian curry dish tonight, and it was delicious. I’ve only had a few curry dishes in my life, none of which were a soupy sort of curry you serve over rice like this one, but rather a noodle or fried rice kind. I’m so glad this turned out the way it did. I ate a ton of it. It had just the right level of spice, where my nose was running but I could still taste all I was eating. And it was kind of zingy since it had a half lemon’s worth of juice in it. Yum.

I like food. A lot. And I enjoy cooking so much. I wish I had people to cook for though. Food is always better when it’s shared. I get really excited when I have friends come over for dinner either at random or for special occasions. Conversation over a plate of steamy, aromatic goodness is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It makes my mouth water. I want to make food for random people.

I feel successful when I cook. Like I should be dancing to a fanfare afterward while mowing down exp and gold.

Keys to the Kingdom DELAYED.

February 24th, 2008 Nichole

So, I’ve been following the Keys to the Kingdom series since 2003.  There are only two books left and I’m more than stoked to see how this series ends. I’m hyper PUMPED!  Fully.  Totally.  Absolutely.  I would give up my addiction to dark chocolate for a year if I could just know how it all comes together.

All the books have been published about one year apart from one another, which is more than fab because I’m antsier than all get out when it comes to getting the next book in a live series.  But now… now Superior Saturday has been pushed until August?  What is that all about?  First May and then August?  This had better be one hell of a book, that’s all I’m saying.  No, it better be totally messed up beyond belief (Superior Saturday, you’re such a bitch).  But if the ending of Lady Friday were to be any indication, I’m sure we’re all in for a wild ride.

August.  Jeez, why August?

Free education via Chicago.

February 24th, 2008 Nichole

For the entire month of February, the Field Museum of Chicago waived their general admission fee, so a friend and I took a train out there and got ourselves some free education.  It was fun.  The museum was bigger than I remembered it to be so we didn’t get to see everything, but we managed to make it through most of the exhibits we wanted to see: dinos, mummies and rocks.  The plant section was lame.  They were all fake and some of the fruits made me itch because of the seeds and the holes.  Bleh.

It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  When the weather gets nicer I’d like to go back and visit the Adler Planetarium.  I’ve never been their before and it looks like so much fun.  I’m a space science nerd.  Space and rocks.  What a surprise.

It wasn’t windy today at all, so it made the weather nicer.  I didn’t even mind standing on the ghetto platform at the Roosevelt station for 30 minutes in the cold.  That station was the lamest one I’d ever been to.  It seriously looks like some poor man’s rundown shack.  I mean look at this.  It’s absolutely horrible!

The train is nice and all, but I’d still rather drive.  I hate bending to a schedule, especially when trains only come every two hours to take my butt back to ye old Indiana.

Keep on, keep on.

I’m quickly learning that making music is like drawing for me. I’m half-way decent at it, but I can never get what I’m envisioning out of my head just the way I want it. I hear all these great melodies, piece together all these great beats, but when I have to paint them into a piano roll I’m not content with it anymore. It sounds forced. It doesn’t flow.

I know that the only way to get better is to keep doing it, but it’s still frustrating. I really would like a MIDI controller. I’m better at banging out chords than painting them.

I’m going to the Field Museum in Chicago with a friend tomorrow. It’s FREE ADMISSION FEBRUARY! I haven’t been there since I was a kid in middle school, so everything will look brand new to me, most likely. I can’t wait to peruse the mineral and gem exhibit. I miss mineralogy. If only I’d found out about my affinity with rocks earlier in my college career, I would have majored in Geology. I almost had a minor, but minors really aren’t anything at all.
