When I sit next to a window with the fan blasting on me, it’s a sign summer has finally come. I hate to use air conditioning when I can simply brave the heat. I blame it on growing up in a house that lacked it for about sixteen years. It’s made me battle-hard. The heat does not scare me; I welcome it.
Yes, my thermostat says it’s 83 in here and I’m loving it.
I rode my bike a lot this weekend, and read. I haven’t cracked a book in a really long time, and had forgotten how much you learn as a writer by reading other people’s stories. I’m already finding things I would like to apply to stories of my own.
The Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan is turning out to be a wonderful series. Not to mention, Halt is quite a character. (Ha, ha, I slay me.) It gives me a little hope that not everything churned out lately will be total and utter crap. I’m sick of sparkly vampires. Seriously.

I spent a good chunk of the day outside because it was gorgeous. Walked downtown some, only to find that in typical Indiana fashion, nearly everything is closed on Sunday. Because of this, I spent some time reading near the koi pond at Ogden Gardens.
I made chocolate chip cookies when I got back since I was craving them. I didn’t have any eggs, so I had to substitute cornstarch and water. They’re still quite tasty! You’d never know it didn’t have any egg in it.
Fixed my bike too. The chain was scraping on some random bits of metal. So after everything was kosher I went for a two-mile bike ride. Valpo is full of bike trails. It’s great to see so many people out biking!
The sun is glaring right at my balcony, so I’m going to wait before I go outside to read again. Maybe in about an hour. The Ranger’s Apprentice series is off to an awesome start, and I really enjoy this author’s voice, though his random used of total omniscience is a little odd (if not sloppy). The story and his characters make up for it. Any book that makes me chuckle intermittently wins many gold stars.

So, I’ve been following the Keys to the Kingdom series since 2003. There are only two books left and I’m more than stoked to see how this series ends. I’m hyper PUMPED! Fully. Totally. Absolutely. I would give up my addiction to dark chocolate for a year if I could just know how it all comes together.
All the books have been published about one year apart from one another, which is more than fab because I’m antsier than all get out when it comes to getting the next book in a live series. But now… now Superior Saturday has been pushed until August? What is that all about? First May and then August? This had better be one hell of a book, that’s all I’m saying. No, it better be totally messed up beyond belief (Superior Saturday, you’re such a bitch). But if the ending of Lady Friday were to be any indication, I’m sure we’re all in for a wild ride.
August. Jeez, why August?
